Journalists have shared their first impressions of South of Midnight, and so far, it looks beautiful but familiar.

The game stands out with its striking visual style and a setting inspired by the culture and folklore of the southern United States, blended with mysticism. The main character, Hazel, possesses supernatural abilities, battles dangerous creatures, and uncovers the secrets of a mysterious world.

Reviewers were particularly impressed by the fluid and fast movement mechanics, making traversal feel smooth and responsive. However, the combat system seems rather generic for now, and it remains to be seen if it will bring anything unique to the table.

While it’s unclear if South of Midnight will truly stand out, its art style and atmosphere certainly make it one to watch. Release on PC and XBOX, April 8.
