Civilization VII has been announced, and judging by the initial reactions, longtime fans are feeling uncertain. Instead of widespread excitement, the reveal has been met with mixed reviews and debates about the direction of the series.

The main complaints include severely stripped-down features at launch, a very limited number of leaders, and an abundance of bugs. Many point out that the game seems to have taken inspiration from its own clones, such as Humankind—but borrowed all the worst aspects.
